Taro beetle insecticides Bifenthrin 100 EC 1. Measure 25 mls of the Bifenthrin 100 EC 2. Put this into a bucket containing 10 litres of water and stir it well with a stick. 3. Apply 100 mls of this mixture with a measuring cup to each taro plant as described below. 4. The mixture will be enough for 100 plants. Mustang 200 EC 1. Measure 25 mls of the Mustang 200 EC. 2. Put this into a bucket containing 10 litres of water and stir well with a stick. 3. Using the measuring cup, apply 125 mls of this mixture to each taro plant as described below. 4. The mixture will be enough for 80 plants. How to Apply: • Pour the insecticide (that you have mixed with water) on top of the soil, evenly all around and close to the taro plants. • You must do this at the time of planting and again after 3 months. Note: Bifenthrin and Mustang are sometimes sold in different strengths (EC). If the EC is different from that given above then ask the supplier or your Didiman how much to put in your mixture. Do not use one insecticide only as it would lead to taro beetle developing resistance to that particular insecticide. At best, alternate the use of the insecticides, e.g. use Bifenthrin for one planting season and in the next planting season use Mustang. The insecticides are poisonous and must be stored, handled and used safely. Always wear the recommended protective clothing. For details refer to a flier on the use of the taro beetle insecticide available at NARI Information Centres.
