Abstract / Content summary The effects on yields during the second year following rehabilitation of shaded smallholder coffee gardens are investigated. Yields from rehabilitated coffee exceeded those from unrehabilitated coffee by 9.3%, average yields being 1.6 and 1.5 tonnes green bean/ha/year respectively. When yields are adjusted for the effects of two other significant covariates, rehabilitation increased yields by almost 50%. New uprights, initiated by the rehabilitation, accounted for only 1.4% of the total harvested crop. Keywords: Coffea arabica; rehabilitation; smallholders; yields; Papua New Guinea
