Abstract / Content summary
The effects on yields during the third year following rehabilitation of shaded smallholder coffee gardens are investigated. Yields from rehabilitated coffee exceeded those from unrehabilitated coffee by 161%, average yields being 1.0 and 0.4 tonnes green bean/ha/year respectively. When yields are adjusted for the effects of one other significant factor and covariate, rehabilitation increased yields by 175%. Rehabilitated coffee may be less prone to biennial bearing than unrehabilitated coffee.
